1. On arrival
Inspect the outer carton before opening. Note any crushing, moisture, or a broken seal on the delivery record and photograph the package before unpacking — this makes any carrier claim straightforward.
Check each item against the packing list: material name, fill size, and quantity. Vials are supplied factory-sealed; a vial whose seal or stopper is disturbed should not be placed into service.
Move the contents into their listed storage conditions promptly. The insulation used in transit is sized for the shipping window, not for extended storage.
2. Storage conditions
The storage condition that applies to a given item is printed on its product page and on the packing documentation. Follow that condition rather than a general rule of thumb, because it differs by material and by fill size.
As a general practice, sealed lyophilised material is kept cold, dry, and out of light. Repeated warming and cooling cycles are the most common avoidable cause of degradation, so keep material in a stable location rather than a frequently opened door shelf.
Keep containers upright, sealed, and clearly labelled with the material name, fill size, and the date the container was opened or reconstituted.
3. Handling in the laboratory
Allow a chilled sealed vial to equilibrate before opening so condensation does not form on the contents. Handle with the personal protective equipment and containment your own laboratory procedures require.
Use clean, dedicated consumables for each material and avoid transferring between containers unnecessarily. Record what was used, when, and in what quantity — traceability is far easier to maintain from the first use than to reconstruct later.
Dispose of unused material, consumables, and packaging in line with your institution's waste procedures and any applicable local rules.
4. Documentation
Each item is clearly identified with its material name and variant-specific fill size, and supporting documentation is provided where available. Keep that documentation with your own records so a result can be tied back to the specific material and batch used.
If anything about an item's identification or documentation is unclear, contact us before placing the material into service.
5. Research use only
Everything supplied by Northstar Bio Labs is a laboratory research material for in-vitro work by qualified professionals. Nothing supplied is a drug, supplement, cosmetic, food, or medical device, and no human or veterinary use is intended, implied, or supported.
